Giant hands on prayer

Located in Webb City, Missouri, the Giant Hands in Prayer are a remarkable 32-foot-tall sculpture made of 220,000 pounds of steel and concrete, crafted by local artist J.E. Jack Dawson. Dedicated in 1974, these hands are more fully clasped than similar sculptures elsewhere and stand on a 40-foot-high man-made hill, surrounded by a vibrant display of flags as part of the city's self-proclaimed identity as The City of Flags.
The installation serves not only as a striking visual landmark, but also as a spiritual focal point for the community. A memorial wall, unveiled in November 2020, commemorates the hands' creation and highlights their significance as a response to the societal challenges of the 1960s.
