St. John's Mercy Health Care, located in St. Louis, runs the St. John's Mercy Medical Center and St. John's Mercy Hospital. The hospitals have a total of more than 1,600 licensed beds, and provide family medical care, medical education, research and community services. The St. John's Mercy Hospital is a more than a 180-bed acute care facility offering medical, surgical, obstetric and pediatric services. The institution is a member of the Sisters of Mercy Health System. The medical center is spread over an area of more than 80 acres. The campus includes a more than 850-bed, fully accredited teaching hospital, a 100,000-square-foot cancer center, health center for women and children, private rooms, a nursing center, and surgery center that provides inpatient and outpatient surgeries.

The great thing about medicine is that it's always changing. There's always new research and new developments. It's really fulfilling to be able to treat patients and see them get better and exciting to know what developments will come in the future with these types of medicines.

I realized early on that the GI tract is the engine of the body. A healthier GI tract leads to a healthier body. And that initiated my interest in gastroenterology as a specialty. I was born in India. So, I had exposure to the eastern philosophy of medicine of life. And that imparted a really great deal of importance to gastroenterology.
