The Ferguson Police Department aims at preserving a peaceful and safe environment through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. The department also conducts a neighborhood watch program that encourages citizens to participate in law enforcement by reporting suspicious criminal activities. It administers the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, which is a national program that trains participants to prepare for emergencies and natural disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes. The Ferguson Police Department also supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the use of illegal drugs, membership in gangs and violent behavior.
