I really became interested in pediatric cardiology while in residency training. Pediatric cardiology is a great blend of high acuity care while also developing long-term relationships with patients and families. I find it very fulfilling to develop these relationships, which makes it easy to work, day in and day out.

I chose to practice primary care because it gives you many opportunities to create long-lasting relationships with patients. I really like getting to know my patients outside of their medical chart. What does their day-to-day life look like? What are their joys and hobbies? Because those things are so important when it comes to thinking about their overall health.

I think the biggest thing is being able to see things from more than one viewpoint and having the ability to conceptualize what sort of result is going to take place from the surgery or work that you'll be accomplishing. And it's that transformative process that makes plastic surgery, in my opinion, very special.
