History
As early as 1817, an ancestor of the Stam family ran a bakery just north of Amsterdam, Holland. Over time, Stam's family bakery developed a reputation for quality pastries and chocolates. In 1913, after receiving numerous requests from devout customers urging him to specialize exclusively in chocolate, Jacobus Stam turned his passion to fine chocolate and created Chocolaterie Stam. Decades later, in 1930, Jacobus's children decided to join their father in business and assist him in bringing joy to people's lives through fine chocolate. At this time, Frits, Wim and Jaap each developed their own branch of Chocolaterie Stam. Frits's business grew to be very successful and was later joined in 1978 by his second eldest son, Ad. The youngest of Frits's seven sons, Ton, felt that America would appreciate his father's chocolate as much as Netherlanders did and decided to bring fine chocolate to America. In 2006, Chocolate Stam USA began franchising. The Hannibal location opened in 2011.
Specialties
he tradition of making fine Dutch chocolate continues in America at Chocolaterie Stam's corporate store, where our production facility is located. Here, Ton's nephew (Ad's youngest child), Erik, shares his love, passion and skill for making exquisite bonbons and fine confections. In 2006, Chocolate Stam USA embarked on its initial expansion effort in the United States, bringing Chocolaterie Stam to Ames, Iowa, followed by a store in Rochester, MN, in 2008. Our location in Papillion, Nebraska, opened in 2009 and more stores followed. In each of our stores, Chocolaterie Stam now offers exquisite bonbons and other fine confections, our own rich coffee blend, and more than 50 flavors of homemade Italian gelato and sorbetto.
Reviews
Fantastic chocolate gelato with excellent service along with multiple samples provided to our three little boys.
House made gelato was delicious! Owner was kind and helpful and gave great Hannibal recommendations. Within walking distance of Mark Twain sites.
Adorable little chocolate shop with gelato, lotus drinks, popcorn, and coffee. Staff were very helpful and kind. Old school vibes and the history of the store is told in pics around the seats.
We were really disappointed to come here with a kid and be told we could only have one sample of gelato per person. I've never been to an ice cream place that limited your samples. She didn't like...
