The Barco Drive-In Theatre in Lamar, Missouri, has a rich history that began in 1949 when Butler Felts, the owner of the Plaza Theater, was approached to design a drive-in theater in Lamar. Intrigued by the offer, Butler headed to Lamar and not only designed the drive-in but also helped build it. Since its opening in 1950, the Barco Drive-In has been a beloved local landmark, offering a nostalgic movie-watching experience with its big screen, snack bar, and charming features like pony rides and fireworks on the 4th of July.

For 58 years, Butler and his wife Wanda ran the Barco Drive-In, creating cherished memories for generations of moviegoers. Today, the Barco Drive-In continues to captivate visitors with its charm and nostalgia, being one of the only three remaining drive-in theaters in the area. From the smell of popcorn to the excitement of intermission ticket stubs, the Barco Drive-In holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up in the area, offering a unique and memorable movie experience for families and friends.

I love the drive-in. I wish there was more of them. It makes me sad that they are slowly dying off..
