Tony Morrison's Bench By The Road 3
The Toni Morrison Society's Bench by the Road Project is a memorial history and community outreach initiative that aims to commemorate significant moments, individuals, and locations within the history of the African Diaspora. Since its launch in 2006, the project has placed 20 black steel memorial benches at various sites around the world, including Sullivan's Island, Walden Woods, the 20th Arrondissement in Paris, Fort-de-France, and the Schomburg Center in Harlem.
Each bench is made of ribbed steel with a plastisol coated seat and powder coated frame for weather resistance. It comes with a bronze naming plate and a description plaque, which are mounted on the bench and a cement foundation on the ground, respectively. The benches are available in 4ft and 6ft sizes, accommodating two and four people respectively, and can be mounted or moveable. The total cost for a 4ft bench is $3500, while a 6ft bench costs $5000.
