South Mississippi State Hospital

South Mississippi State Hospital is an acute care, regional psychiatric facility. The hospital serves Lamar, Forrest, Marion, Perry, Greene, Wayne, Jones, Covington and Jefferson Davis counties in Mississippi. South Mississippi State Hospital is a part of the Department of Mental Health. The hospital operates the Crisis Intervention Center, which is a more than 10-bed facility and offers a range of psychiatric services for patients who suffer from several mental illnesses. The Crisis Intervention Center has a work force of over 30 employees. South Mississippi State Hospital also maintains Friends of South Mississippi State Hospital, which is a nonprofit organization and works to promote the understanding of mental illness-related issues.
