The Roy L. and Clara Belle Wiley Planetarium, located within Delta State University, stands as a unique hub for exploring the wonders of astronomy. Established in 1976, the planetarium was the vision of Physics professor Roy Lee Wiley, offering Delta State students a platform to delve into the realms of celestial bodies and constellations.

Originally home to a cutting-edge Spitz-512 star ball, the Wiley Planetarium has evolved to feature a modern Digistar 7 digital projector system from Evans and Sutherland. This innovative upgrade has enabled the planetarium to reopen in 2016, inviting the public to partake in astronomy classes, educational programs for school groups, and captivating shows.

Welcome to DSU Art Department The Art Department at Delta State University has a long tradition of helping art students become successful, practicing artists with a lifelong passion for art. Our students have gone on to own their own graphic design firms or serve as Art Director for magazines and agencies. We can boast of a number of graduates who are active as painters, sculptors, ceramists, and art instructors. We are striving to continue this tradition of excellence by enhancing a number of areas. We have improved modern facilities with spacious studios which include an up-to-date graphic design computer lab, and a digital photography/video lab with state-of-art equipment. Our students also collaborate with students in the Delta Music Institute on multi-media projects. We have initiated a new summer study program in western and central Turkey, visiting such sites as Ephesus, Cappadocia, Hagia Sophia, Pergamum and many others. We also offer a summer study program in Florence, Italy to give students first-hand exposure to art masterpieces and renaissance culture. Other initiatives include a yearly six-day museum study program to such cities as New York, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Chicago and others to experience first-hand the works of the present and past masters. The Hazel and Jimmy Sanders Sculpture Garden serves as a hands-on sculpture lab with its biennial competition. Eight works from past competitions are installed around Delta State campus. Finally, we have a strong and diverse faculty committed to helping students achieve their artistic goals. We welcome you to explore our programs and invite you to come visit our department. Please feel free to call for an appointment or drop by at your convenience.
