Together, the MS Southern Coalition works as a collaborative effort to address the underage drinking problem in the southern region of the State of Mississippi.Drug and Violence Prevention High Priority Initiative is a program that is currently being conducted in the Palmer's Crossing neighborhood. The Palmer's Crossing community has been annexed into the City of Hattiesburg, and is a low socioeconomic area with multiple identified needs. The goals of this program are to reduce alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse amongst adolescents living in the target area. This program also aims to reduce violence, rebelliousness, and favorable attitudes toward antisocial behavior by 4% by the end of the 2009 fiscal year.The Regional Alcohol & Drug Awareness Resources collection is a library of 300 video and DVD resources, brochures, posters, and up to date articles on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. Resources are distributed or loaned at no charge to community members engaged in a substance abuse prevention activity, parents, and educators. Technical Assistance and training is also available through the RADAR Center.
