Monroe County Electric Power Association
Monroe County Electric Power Association (MCEPA) is a nonprofit electric cooperative regulated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and governed by a member-elected board of directors. Serving portions of Monroe, Lowndes, and Itawamba counties in northeast Mississippi, MCEPA is dedicated to delivering safe and affordable electricity to improve the quality of life for its members.
Founded in 1936, MCEPA was the first rural cooperative in the nation to energize lines financed by the Rural Electric Administration (REA). The cooperative was established to provide electric power to rural communities, which at the time had limited access to electricity, with only 15 percent of Mississippi farm homes being electrified.
