Community Counseling Services is also known as Mississippi Region VII Mental Health/Mental Retardation Commission. The organization was formed as a result of the Federal Community Mental Health Centers Act, mandating community access to mental health care. It is a public nonprofit agency licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Mental Health. Community Counseling Services is supervised by mental health commissioner, who is appointed by board of supervisors in every county. The organization has more than 450 staff members that provide services to over 65 programs in nearly 50 sites, covering a seven-county area. It provides various services, including mental health, residential, alcohol and drug, and developmental disability services and employee assistance programs.
