Located in Duluth, Minn., Northwood Children's Services is a private, nonprofit multiservice agency for children and their families. Founded in 1883, it provides professional care, education and treatment for boys and girls with emotional, behavioral and learning disorders. Its programs are family focused and serve to strengthen, preserve and reunite families. The center offers residential and day treatment, diagnostic and assessment services, family mental health services and therapeutic foster care. The children in treatment at Northwood attend school at the Merritt Creek Academy and Chester Creek Academy, located within the campus. Its program sites and services are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services and also accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. Northwood Children's Services receives financial support from individual donors, clubs, organizations, Medicaid and private insurance payments.
