Stearns County Jail is a security facility that was founded in 1987. The jail is licensed by the State of Minnesota to house more than 165 inmates for up to 1 year after final disposition. It has over 100 beds in nearly five housing units and approximately 10 holding cells. In addition, Stearns County Jail has more than 60 beds in a dormitory-style setting. The jail administers work release, inmate screening, recreational and volunteer religious programs. It also offers library services. Stearns County Jail is governed by the County of Stearns in Minnesota, which manages administrative, health and human services, and natural resources departments.
