In 1994 Fergus Falls Monument Company ( FFMC ) was looking for a way to keep production rolling during the freezing winter months. Talking to a Cold Spring sales rep, they were interested to hear that sales for granite slabs, to be used as countertops, were up for the past few years and that trend seemed to be growing with each passing year. They decided to buy some equipment to be able to fabricate the granite countertops. The two owners were also brothers in the 125 year old family business and decided that they would be the first guinea pigs to have granite tops made out of their shop. To their amazement the wives were very pleased with the results, word got around town and they started to receive orders for more countertops in the area. Growth was slow since they were just fabricating in the winter months and no one was promoting the tops, all the business was word-of-mouth. Slow and steady was the philosophy that built the foundation Agassiz Granite Tops some years later they purchased some more equipment and then decided to hire a sales manager to promote that side of the business. Soon it would be time to expand the production area. About this time is when the brothers decided it was actually getting to be more than they wanted to handle at this point in their lives, retiring was in the not-to-distant future, they wanted to slow down, not speed up. It was time to sell the business to Jason Nelson myself. We both worked for FFMC, Jason has been fabricating the countertops for 14 years and I worked both as a bookkeeper and office manager, growing up with the business in my family I wanted to keep that tradition going. Our philosophy is the same today as it was when Agassiz was in its infancy. Grow at a pace that won't take you away from quality and customer service. Agassiz Granite Tops is not a company that has a need to fabricate 7 to 10 counters a day, nor are we set up to. Jason and I remain to be very hands on with the sale, fabrication and installation process. Jason is templating and cutting almost every job that passes though our door just as he did 14 years ago. I have been installing for the last few years and now will be working more with the customer and overseeing the installs to make sure our high standards are being met in every home we do. We take great pride in our work and expect the same from our employees. I know each one genuinely cares about the quality of work they produce, which stems from them meeting most of the customers that come through our doors. Dedicated to find the material that best fits each customer we have expanded our products to include Engineered Quartz such as, Silestone and Hanstone and we are also one of the premier fabricators of Soapstone countertops.
