Founded in 1891, the YWCA of Minneapolis is a nonprofit membership organization that serves more than 25,000 people annually. The organization manages over three health and fitness centers that include treadmills and elliptical machines. It provides group and water exercise classes weekly, as well as lifeguard and safety courses and lap and recreational swimming sessions. The YWCA of Minneapolis also publishes newsletters. The organization offers the YWCA Endurance Sports program, which features classes in biking and running. It operates children centers that provide programs in art, science, music, dramatic play, English and Spanish. The organization works in partnership with Abbott Northwestern Hospital and the City of Minneapolis. It offers facilities for events, meetings, and birthday and holiday parties on a rental basis. The organization is affiliated with Girls Incorporated, which is a nonprofit entity. The YWCA of Minneapolis is a member of the YWCA.
