Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum is not a traditional museum; it is housed in a former Carnegie Library and defines a claim to our history and narrative of the Anishinaabe and Indigenous communities. We see Giiwedinong which means, "in the north," in our Anishinaabe language, as more of a basket of stories, gifts, and potential means to shape mindsets and foster cultural, political, and social revitalization in the areas we serve. The objective of the museum is to apprise visitors about Anishinaabe culture and our rich history, as well as to emphasize the significance of our treaties and treaties with other Indigenous nations that protect their future through community engagement. Our Vision of Giiwedonong is Mino Bimaadiziiwin (to live “the good life”) for all Indigenous peoples as given by the Creator and as carried by generations behind and ahead.
