The Alternatives To Violence Project (AVP) is a grassroots, worldwide movement dedicated to building peace in ourselves and in our communities. Through their workshops, AVP aims to enable creative and affirming responses to conflict and violence, both in prisons and in the community. They explore the root causes of violence and provide tools for individuals to respond in new and creative ways, fostering mutual respect and cooperation.
AVP works with incarcerated individuals, helping them to address violence both inside and outside of prison. They also focus on addressing the effects of violence in communities, where much of the violence encountered is not physical. Additionally, AVP offers workshops for youth, inspiring mutual respect and cooperation from a young age. They are also developing a focus on trauma, exploring how individuals can become resilient to the trauma they experience in their lives.
