ALLETE s primary business is providing a variety of reliable energy services to residents of the upper Midwest. The company also has significant real estate holdings in Florida. Its electric utility, Minnesota Power, serves approximately 137,000 residents, more than 15 municipalities and several large industrial customers. Its other subsidiaries include Superior Water Light and Power Company, which sells electricity, water and natural gas in Superior, Wis., and surrounding areas; BNI Coal, which owns and operates a lignite coal mine in North Dakota; and ALLETE Properties, which operates real estate companies throughout Florida. ALLETE is headquartered in Duluth, Minn.
