Universal Institute is one of the CARF accredited leaders in rehabilitation and living services for the disabled. The company specializes in skilled rehabilitation, residential services and vocational training. Located in Troy, Mich., it also offers home, community and environmental assessments. The company provides a wide range of rehabilitation services, such as physical/speech therapy, behavior management, addictions counseling and adaptive equipment, to name a few. Universal Institute has affiliation with the Seton Hall University, Montclair State University, Centenary College, Fairleigh Dickenson University and New York University, including others.

New Horizons Rehabilitation Services is a private, nonprofit organization, serving people throughout southeastern Michigan. New Horizons' roots date back to 1964 when three volunteers from the Junior League of Birmingham saw a need in the community for a place that would provide job skills and meaningful employment for people with disabilities. The Junior League provided the initial funds and New Horizons opened its first facility in Royal Oak in 1965 with an executive director, a foreman and five consumers. The organization has grown to nearly 10 branch locations, has numerous work sites in the community and serves more than five counties in southeastern Michigan. It provides a variety of vocational and other rehabilitation services to people with disabilities as well as those with other barriers to employment.
