The Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast

History

The Farmhouse has a vibrant history. Built in 1888, it first served as a boarding house for migrant workers, before being purchased by Joseph Richer in 1903. The house and surrounding acreage has remained in the Richer family since the turn of the 20th century and has seen many gangs of Richer families enjoy the majestic summers and glorious winters. The Farmhouse is currently home to Renee (Joseph Richer's great granddaughter) and her daughter.

The Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast welcomes you to the unparalleled beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. One of National Geographic's great rural regions of America, you will enjoy the garden bounty of fresh berries and jams, roasted root vegetables, organic pancakes with homemade maple syrup from the sugar bush. Our focus is on clean living and clean eating. Crisp cotton sheets, large private baths with claw foot tubs and, of course, cable and WiFi. Surrounded by 300 acres of hay field, hardwood forests and cedar lowlands you can amuse yourself for days. Located centrally between Escanaba and Gladstone, we are just a short drive to the lake Michigan shores and the finest area dining at the Stonehouse. Our guests come to relax for a longer stay or are often travelling through from the Midwest and Canada! A two minute drive will get you to church, the White Birch tavern, Flat Rock country store, and Chenier's Greenhouse (perfect for those springtime plantings)! A ten-minute drive will place you on the Shores of Lake Michigan in Escanaba or Gladstone. There you can enjoy the amazing beaches, marina activities and festivals and water activities including kayaking, kite surfing, sailing, fishing and wind surfing.
