History

Sweet Gem was born from a passion for chocolate and the making of small, special treats at a very young age, and truly crystallized after a year living in Spain near the Bay of Biscay. In 1991, Nancy returned from Spain and taught herself everything she could about making truffles from local cream and fresh raspberries. She then enrolled at Schoolcraft College to confirm that she knew what she was doing. When her first son Jackson was born, she quit her job with U of M to be a stay-at-home Mom. Sweet Gem grew slowly as Jackson, and then her second son Griffin, scampered about the home, backyard, their neighborhood in Allmendinger Park, and the great town of Ann Arbor MI. The business has grown steadily for the past 20 years. We have aspired to create the very best chocolates and confections you will ever taste. With help from our wonderful friends and fans, we believe we have accomplished our mission. It is our pleasure to bring you Joy Through Chocolate!
