The Episcopal Church was planted in America by the Church of England in the colonies of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The earliest known celebrations of the Eucharist in North America by Anglicans were near San Francisco, California, in 1579, by Sir Francis Drake's chaplain, and in 1607 at Jamestown, Virginia.
