Parked downtown and over to the Keweenaw waterway walk. Get some decent pics of the bridge from Houghton to Hancock. Didn't get to see it lift this time. :(

The Portage Lift Bridge in Houghton, MI has a rich history dating back to the mid-1800s when it was a vital transportation link for mining enterprises and communities in the area. Originally a wooden toll bridge, it was later replaced with an iron swing bridge that could accommodate both road and railroad traffic. Today, the bridge stands as a testament to the region's industrial past and continues to serve as a crucial connection between the Keweenaw Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula mainland.
The bridge, which features a center swing section to allow maritime traffic to pass through, has undergone several reconstructions over the years due to accidents and the need to accommodate increasing commerce. With its impressive clearance and strategic location, the Portage Lift Bridge remains an iconic landmark and an important part of Houghton's history and infrastructure.
