Revolutionizing the wallpaper and blinds business might not seem like an obvious choice for a kid from Michigan, but for Steve Katzman, its been a family affair from the beginning. 1950: Steves father and grandfather opened Kay & Kay Tile more than 57 years ago, in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 10, Steve began working there on the weekends and during the summer months For the next 12 years, Steve watched and learned the familys business and as he did, he discovered that the secret to business success was no secret: give your customers great products, credible prices and incredible service and theyll keep coming back. Its a lesson that stuck with Steve and one that hes used to help guide him on his way to becoming one of the most recognizable and respected names in the Blinds and Wallpaper business. 1993:Steve and his family own more than 30 retail stores between Michigan and Illinois and the mail order business is processing in excess of 300,000 consumer orders annually. The company pioneers many of the industrys now-common business practices such as quick shipping and offering products from all of the major national brands.1993: Steve and his family sell all 3 companies. Steve stays on and with the support of the companys new owners, focuses on the mail order business and introduces blinds and wallpaper to the internet.1999: The mail order and internet business becomes the largest direct response company in the United States for special order blinds and wallpaper, processing more than 600,000 orders annually.In 2006, American Blind & Wallpaper Factory was sold to an investment group and Steve decided to leave the company and spend time with his family. It didnt take long for Steve and his father to decide to put their more than 60 years of knowledge and experience to work again, and in December 2006, Steves Blinds & Wallpaper was launched.Steve's Showroom Open to the Public - You are always welcome to visit Steves Blinds and Wallpaper showroom located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The showroom has over 500 special order wallpaper books to choose from and over 300 blinds on display from all the name brands including Hunter Douglas, Levolor, Graber, Kirsch, F. Shumacher, Waverly, Village, Seabrook, Brewster, Blonder and more.
