The Michigan Council of Real Estate Appraisers was created in 2004 with one purpose: to serve Michigan's REALTOR-appraisers through advocacy, benefits, data resources, and educational offerings. The Council, steered by a committee of fifteen appraisers representing more than 2800 members, is Michigan's strongest voice for the rights and needs of appraisers in the state. The services and value MiCREA provides to its members complement in numerous ways the services provided to members by their local associations and appraisal organizations. Any appraiser in Michigan who is a member of MAR is automatically a member of MiCREA. While most MiCREA appraisers also hold a real estate license, many are specialists in the appraisal field. No separate dues or membership application are required. Just as MAR provides specialized services to residential and commercial REALTORS, MAR also offers specialized services to appraisers through MiCREA as MAR's appraisal division. MiCREA exists to be the first place consumers and REALTORS come to find resources and information about the appraisal industry in Michigan. MiCREA offers educational information about the appraisal process for consumers, REALTORS, and appraisers, provides a roster of all appraiser members of MAR, gives consumers and REALTORS a searchable database of the state's appraisers, sponsors networking and continuing education events throughout the state, offers an entire appraisal continuing education line-up at the MAR Convention, and provides members with a wide range of appraisal-related data and information links and resources. MiCREA, through the resources of MAR, is also the leading advocate for the interests of Michigan's appraisers in the public policy arena. Fighting for the rights and interests of the appraisal and real estate industries on issues such as tax restructuring, AQB standards changes, and appraisal/mortgage fraud legislation, MiCREA serves appraisers by ensuring that favorable legislation protects private property rights and the livelihood of appraisers in Michigan.
