HistoryPeople Dancing was founded by Whitley Setrakian Hill in 1985. Ms. Hill and a group of dedicated dance artist started the Company as a not-for-profit dance company with a dual mission of art-making and education. Christina Sears-Etter, MFA continues the tradition today, with the support of a Board of Directors and Volunteers. We empower dancers to continue their professional development and provide training, performance opportunities and coaching. Dancers in the company and our leading class program, SOMA dance, have the opportunity to perform at least twice per year. These opportunities are open to teen through adult dancers. People Dancing founded the Dance in the Mitten Festival and the next festival is planned for 2017. Dance in the Mitten Festival is on facebook and has its own website. People Dancing Company has won many awards and honors and has been featured in the following: Global Water Dances, Michigan Humanities Council Showcases and Touring Directory, Detroit River Days.SpecialtiesWe specialize in semi-private dance, yoga and somatic services. Lots of personal attention because our classes are small. Our Yoga program ranges from Somatic yoga, rigorous yoga on Saturdays, Children's yoga (coming in 2016). Our Dance program includes individual consultation and assessment for advanced dancers, custom choreography for ensemble, duets, trios or soloists, and special training workshops. Our Somatics program is currently focused on workshops for inviduals and private instruction. Somatics is movement that is focused on mind-body integration, wellness and moving for personal development.
