The Lutheran Social Services of Michigan (LSSM), formerly known as the Lutheran Inner Mission League of Greater Detroit, is one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit, human service organizations in Michigan. Established in 1934, it offers a range of foster care, adoption, subsidized housing, nursing and community support services for homeless individuals and refugees, as well as individuals with developmental disabilities. The Lutheran Social Services of Michigan s community support services include medication assistance, personal care, light housekeeping, meal assistance, transportation, shopping, and social and recreational activities. Its children and families services feature adoption, foster care and independent living. The organization operates various nursing facilities, retirement communities and senior apartment complexes. It also provides in-home staff support, case management, behavioral management and therapy services. The Lutheran Social Services of Michigan is certified by the Council on Accreditation of Child and Family Agencies. It maintains a location in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Established in 1984, the Senior Meals on Wheels Program serves more than 5,600 senior citizens of Kent County in Michigan every year. The organization supports the Homebound Meal Program, which serves over 1,800 senior citizens a day and delivers nutritionally balanced meals. One-third of the allocated federal nutritional allowance is spent daily on such meals. The Senior Meals on Wheels Program offers individual health assessment services. The organization also supports the Congregate Meal Program, under which nearly 10 dining centers are maintained that conduct social activities, medical checkups and health education classes.
