History
The boom of the pet food industry was not the driving force for Suzette and David Dursema to start Ebby's Pet Bakery, in fact creating this type of specialty business was very much a risk in a smaller market such as West Michigan. Their driving force was a calling and a passion to help them get through the loss of their 25 year old son Brandon and their love for dogs, especially Lilly. They started their business in April of 2012. Suzette had been making healthy pet treats from organic and local products and was asked to make some for an event at a local pet groomer which was a big hit. Friends, family and potential customers kept asking for the healthy treats for their pets and encouraging her to start producing them to sell. Like many entrepreneurs, she woke up one morning and knew they needed to do this. Lilly continues to be their inspiration and every day, every roll of the dough, they think about their son who led them to their need for Lilly who is a service dog, Suzette says.
