Consumers Energy provides electric and gas utility service to more than six million residents in nearly 70 counties in Michigan. The company serves several principal cities, including Battle Creek, Bay City, Cadillac, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Midland, Muskegon and Saginaw, Mich. It operates coal- and oil-fired generating plants, hydroelectric generators and combustion-turbine plants. Consumers Energy owns a nuclear facility. The utility also purchases power from several sources, such as the Midland Cogeneration Venture, the nation s first conversion of an idled nuclear plant. Its natural gas supply is enabled by major pipeline companies and producers in the United States and Canada. Fifteen natural storage fields in Michigan allow the company to economically purchase and store gas during warm months. Consumers Energy is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation. The company maintains a location in Royal Oak, Mich.
