Flint SOUP

HistoryFlint SOUP was launched in October of 2012 with a Share Art Flint grant from Ruth Mott Foundation two host two SOUP events. From 2013-2017 it was funded privately until receiving a grant from C.S Mott Foundation for operational support beginning January 1st 2017. Flint SOUP is known as an organization that hosts micro-grant dinners honoring and supporting creative ideas, projects and startups in the greater Flint area. Attendees donate $5 dollars at the door to hear presentations from four pre-selected individuals seeking funding. At the end of the night, everyone votes for their favorite presentation. Categories range from art, urban agriculture, entrepreneurship, education and technology. 100% of donations are awarded to the presenter with the most votes. By attending Flint SOUP dinners and donating towards events, residents are funding other residents from their own neighborhoods, allowing them to implement projects and businesses they feel will contribute to the community.SpecialtiesFlint SOUP is a monthly dinner that raises seed money for start-ups in the greater Flint community. Cost: $5 for soup, salad, bread, and a vote! We see SOUP as an opportunity to expand community engagement by having our diners participate more directly in Flint projects and/or start-ups. We love to think outside the box of funding -- we are inspired by individuals who look beyond their everyday mediums to execute pointed projects that are creative, interesting and seek to engage, improve or define our community.
