El Campito, founded in 1970 by Concepcion and Ignacio Niño, is dedicated to promoting the educational, social, and economic success of culturally diverse children and their families in St. Joseph County. Originally created for the children of migrant workers, it continues to focus on providing high-quality early childhood education for low-income families. At the El Campito Child Development Center, children from walking age to kindergarten entry are engaged in active learning based on the HighScope philosophy, which fosters their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual capacities. Founded in 1975, Catholic Family Services is a nonprofit organization that provides a range of social services to more than 22,000 individuals every year.
