The Wayside in Concord, MA is a historic home that has witnessed and influenced both the local and national history of America for over three centuries. From being mentioned as a potential search location for arms during the Revolutionary War to being a residence for renowned authors like Louisa May Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Wayside holds a significant place in American literature and cultural identity.

As part of the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, The Wayside also played a role in aiding runaway slaves seeking freedom. Preserved by the Lothrop family in the late 19th century, The Wayside became part of Minute Man National Historical Park in 1965, allowing visitors to explore the rich history and literary heritage of this remarkable site.

Long tour. Fascinating peek into the eccentric mind of the beloved Concordian author. If you are a literary buff, history buff or curious George... this is a mandatory stop on the road to discovery!
