Teens Against Gang Violence
Teens Against Gang Violence (TAGV) is a youth and family-based program founded in 1990 by Dr. Ulric Johnson, the former Director of the City of Boston's Department of Health and Hospital Gang Drug Prevention Program. TAGV aims to empower both youth and their family members by providing culturally appropriate knowledge, skills, tools, and relationships to cultivate mental health and wellness in their own lives and community.
Based on Dr. Johnson's belief that the root cause of violence and mental health issues is the failure to appreciate diversity, TAGV follows the Afro Centric ideology of "I also meaning WE." By emphasizing collective action and the impact of individual actions on the family and community, TAGV strives for success through collective efforts to achieve common goals.
