35 Bowdoin St
Boston, MA 02114

St. John the Evangelist Church in Boston, MA, is a historic Episcopal parish located on Beacon Hill. Originally built in 1831 as a monastery, the church now serves as a socially progressive and inclusive worshipping community with a focus on outreach programs for marginalized groups.

With a beautiful sanctuary hidden behind a castle-like exterior, St. John's hosts weekly Mass on Sundays and free concerts on Wednesdays featuring classically-trained musicians. Additionally, the church operates a soup kitchen on weekends and welcomes those interested in becoming (lay) officiants to reach out to the Parish Secretary for more information.

This beautiful church has closed. The building has, or will be sold, and the parish has technically merged with St. Paul's Cathedral on Tremont Street, though I find the thought of that happening...
