The South Shore Medical Center, also known as SSMC, is an independently owned, multispecialty health care organization that specializes in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology. Established in 1962, it provides primary medical care, as well as a variety of specialty and ancillary services to patients. The South Shore Medical Center offers a variety of services in the areas of allergy, immunology, family medicine, dermatology, obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, podiatry, urgent care, and gynecology fertility and reproductive health radiology. The organization also provides various diagnostic imaging services, such as digital mammography, ultrasound and bone densitometry and X-ray. It is an affiliate of Atrius Health, which is a nonprofit organization comprised of more than 800 physicians who practice at over 20 sites in the Boston metropolitan area. The South Shore Medical Center maintains a location in Kingston, Mass.
