The playground holds historical significance, as it was once the site of the Lake Park School, a six-room schoolhouse built in 1894. After the school was deemed unsafe in 1962 and demolished in 1966, the empty lot served as a space for neighborhood kids to play until 1987 when the community rallied together to create a magnificent wooden play structure resembling a castle and fortress.
