Providence & Worcester Railroad is an intermodal rail company operating in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. The company s customers include Dow Chemical Company, Northeast Utilities, Exxon/Mobil, Frito-Lay, General Dynamics Corporation, International Paper Company, Smurfit Stone Container and Tilcon Connecticut. Providence & Worcester Railroad began independent operations in 1973, and through a series of acquisitions of connecting lines, has grown from 45 miles of track to a system of approximately 545 miles. Providence & Worcester Railroad is headquartered in Worcester, Mass.
