Prince Hall Grand Chap Order-the Eastern Star Jurisdiction
The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons Jurisdiction of Massachusetts is the oldest Black organization in America, tracing its legacy back to March 6, 1775, when Prince Hall and 14 men of color were initiated as Masons in Boston Harbor. In 1784, they received a charter from the Grand Lodge of England, establishing African Lodge No. 459, which has since evolved into a significant international organization with over 4,500 lodges and a membership exceeding 300,000 worldwide.
As it approaches its 250th anniversary in 2025, the Prince Hall Grand Lodge continues to honor the contributions of its founding father, Prince Hall, who served as the first Black Grand Master. Under the leadership of Grand Master Justin A. Petty, the organization maintains its commitment to brotherhood, community service, and the values of Freemasonry.
