Knowing that children are all unique, I really believe in learning through play. To provide some structure, I use a teacher-directed curriculum full of child-led activities that allow kids to explore and direct their own learning. I also incorporate opportunities for kids to play on their own. The day is flexible, but we have time frames for different activities, including free play during drop-off, songs, outdoor play, story time, quiet time, snacks, dramatic play and pretend, and arts and crafts. We also have daily circle time, which includes introductions, greetings, songs, and review of concepts we've been learning or will learn. I'm bilingual, so I'm able to include songs, stories, and some instruction of vocabulary in Spanish and English. Little Learners At Mount Vernon Daycare is a fully licensed Family Child Care program that has undergone a rigorous state-mandated process, including a 3-part background check for every person in the household, a home inspection, Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification, and unannounced visits from the Department of Early Education and Care Licensors.
