Letter & Lark

History

Colleen grew up in a creative family of painters and printers, learning to love the process of making things by hand. In 2004, she graduated from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design. After working as a designer for several years, she took a letterpress workshop and was at once smitten with the entire process, learning all aspects of printing and deciding that this was where her heart was. She studied under several printers for over two years before launching her own freelance design and letterpress services in 2009, and then launching her studio, Letter & Lark, in 2012. Letter & Lark moved into their new studio space in Dedham, MA at the Motherbrook Arts & Community Center in the spring of 2013. Besides using the space as a commercial print shop, they offer seasonal workshops and 1:1 private letterpress instruction. Clients are welcome to visit, but by appointment only, please.

Letter & Lark is a custom letterpress studio which focuses on creating beautiful work through thoughtful design and quality printing. We offer completely custom pieces for weddings, milestone celebrations, business branding, as well as a paper goods line available for retail purchase at stationery stores nationwide. Established by Colleen Ellse, the studio carries out the philosophy that invitations should be as individual as the people and event behind them. With an attentiveness to customers, high quality design, and a meticulous execution of work, Letter & Lark understands that these printed pieces will become cherished family keepsakes or important day-to-day business components. Letter & Lark believes in the hand-made, careful centuries-old craft, and creating work that celebrates the human experience.
