History

In 2012, WFPL staff decided to pursue opening a makerspace as a library initiative, however, there was no physical space in the library to do this. Throughout 2012-2013 library staff investigated community interest and started to host more maker programming. There was clear interest from the community, but still no space. Lucky for the WFPL, the Arsenal Project was looking to develop community space on their property. They approached Library Administration and offered storefront space to the makerspace project for free and from there Hatch was formed. In July 2017, the WFPL brought on a full-time Hatch Coordinator and facilitated the move to its current location at 20 Summer Street.
