Over 4000 wooden ships have been built on the banks of the Essex River since 1668. The Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum traces the evolution of traditional boat building through artifacts, photographs, hands-on exhibits and tour guides with deep knowledge of maritime and local history. The School House building interprets ship models from the Smithsonian Institute.

I went to visit the museum , and it was closed for the winter season. But a woman who works there came out of a building and told me that I could walk around the shipyard and look in the...

Got here at open. Justin was excellent in his introduction. We love this type of a technological window on history. We commend the curators and participants. One of our favorite stops on Cape Ann.
