J P Bartlett Co

In 1911, James Lowell Bartlett began his family greenhouse business on Route 20 in Sudbury. He would be proud to know that it's still in the same location today. Throughout four generations, the Bartlett family business has grown and changed. In 1947, John Pike Bartlett took the reins of the company. A farm boy with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Tufts, he was a well-known innovator within the industry. John was known for his optimism ; believing one can create something more efficient if they put their mind to it. He soon developed and patented the first plastic covered greenhouses with Lord and Burnham known as the Bartlett Structure that revolutionized the industry. His passion for improving the business often kept him up until the wee hours of the morning. Some of those late nights lead to sleeping in but, he knew his greenhouses were in good hands since his wife Dorothy was, and sometimes still is, the first one into work. In the early 50's, while John was off building bridges, Dorothy was the one who kept the business running. From filling pots, growing plants, and shoveling coal for the furnaces, she did it all. To this day she still shows and teaches her children and grandchildren how to work efficiently, and always makes sure they get their hands dirty. This tradition of hard work still lives on. Even today, J.P. Bartlett Company is proud to run an operation based on the principles of trust. We have patented several of our geranium varieties, but we do not charge royalty fees. Believing once you buy something, it's yours ; we encourage our customers to honor intellectual property rights. We feel once you get to know our family, our service and our products, the experience of buying from us will speak for itself.
