Founded in 1886, Concord Museum serves as a center of learning and cultural enjoyment for visitors who come to Concord, Mass. The museum s collection includes several decorative arts items, including case and seating furniture, tables, clocks, looking glasses, textiles, ceramics and metalware of 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Its collection has been recognized for its national significance by curators, historians and educators. Concord Museum also has a collection of artifacts including powder horns, muskets, cannonballs and fifes related to the American Revolution. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Thoreau possessions, including furnishings from his cabin at Walden Pond and the contents of Ralph Waldo Emerson's study where he wrote his influential essays. In addition, it offers a variety of programs for adults, children and families. Concord Museum s public programs include classes, workshops, concerts, walking tours, gallery conversations, lectures and symposia.
