The hospital has been in continuous operation as a psychiatric hospital on 12 acres in South Brookline, Mass., since 1895. It was originally located in Forest Hills in 1884. The hospital serves patients of all ages, all ethnic and socio-economic groups, all diagnostic categories and has contracts with most insurances and managed care companies including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Tufts and Harvard Pilgrim. Bournewood Hospital has a psychiatric physician presence 24-hour, seven days per week. It admits patients 24 hours a day, has five inpatient units, separate acute residential beds, separate adult and child adolescent partial hospital programs and outpatient services.
