The American Textile History Museum showcases the history of the United States through the art, history and science of its textile industry. The museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and is among more than 15 museums recognized by the association in the U.S. Founded in 1960, it was formerly known as the Merrimack Valley Textile Museum. The museum documents the woolen, cotton, flax and silk industries in the U.S. through its collections of pre-industrial tools and powered industrial machinery, as well as various collections from the Osborne Library. In addition, the museum hosts conferences, supports research and publications, and organizes exhibitions and public programs. The American Textile History Museum is located in Lowell, Mass.
