When same-sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts in November 2003, Bernadette Coveney Smith worked in downtown Boston and took long lunches to attend the pro-gay marriage rallies and protests at the State House. It was then that she envisioned a company which would help these gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples finally create beautiful and meaningful weddings. Bernadette and her former business partner launched It's About Time in early 2004 as the first and only firm in Massachusetts and anywhere in the U.S. specializing in planning legal same-sex weddings. It's been six years since then and Bernadette changed the name of the company to 14 Stories in November 2009. Although Bernadette's first idea was to help gay and lesbian couples comfortably navigate a historically straight wedding industry, she now helps all couples and clients looking for meticulously produced and designed events that are different from the norm.
