History

The Washington School of Photography (WSP) has been developing photographers since 1976, beginning in the apex of modern film photography and prospering into what has become the digital revolution. WSP was founded with the goal of educating professional and amateur photographers throughout the Washington and Baltimore areas. It began in a modest two-room facility; however, due to the growth of workshops and seminars, the school relocated several times before moving to its Bethesda location in 1993. As the growth and success continued, WSP expanded its location, offering students a shooting studio, four classrooms, an eight-station darkroom, gallery space, and library area. Now, with even more growth and interest from the public, it is relocating to a larger space in Rockville, expanding to seven classrooms and three studios.

Specialties

Washington School of Photography offers many courses, ranging from traditional film and darkroom practice to digital media. Examples of our classes include smartphone photography, studio lighting, darkroom, and composition. In addition to our workshops, we offer a Professional Program leading to a certificate in professional photography. Our graduates start their own business, become their own boss, and are at the forefront of the photography industry in the DC Metro Area. WSP's state-of-the-art facility features a black-and-white darkroom, a dedicated digital teaching area, 2 professional shooting studios, and gallery space. We offer these spaces for rent on hourly, weekly, and monthly bases.

The school is great, very easy to work with. Prices are decent, though I wish they would maybe do a package deal so if you want to take 2-3 classes you can get a price cut (it can get expensive)....
