The Original Pancake House was founded in Portland, Ore., in 1953 with a goal to offer authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes. Today, the family-owned restaurant chain operates more than 100 franchises. Its signature items include apple pancakes, the Dutch Baby, fresh vegetable omeletes, corned beef hash, strawberry waffles, Kijafa cherry crepes and Tahitian maiden s dream crepes. The Original Pancake House also offers side dishes, meat, waffles, cereals, fruit, juices, beverages and a variety of egg specialties. The restaurant chain prepares crepes by rolling them with sour cream tempered with orange liqueur and by using a special tropical syrup topping made from a blend of citrus fruits. It offers buttermilk, potato, bacon, Swedish and Hawaiian pancakes. The Original Pancake House maintains a location in Bethesda, Md.
